La Rioja will host archaeological research days

The National University of La Plata will launch the First Interuniversity Conference “Samay Huasi. Research and Archaeological Heritage of the Province of La Rioja”. The activity will take place at the Samay Huasi farm, Chilecito, La Rioja on August 7, 8 and 9, 2024.

The activities are organized by the Presidency of the UNLP, together with the Secretariat of Art and Culture, and the Ceramic Analysis Laboratory – Faculty of Natural Sciences and Museum; and the National University of Chilecito. The call and registration form will be published soon.

It should be remembered that Samay Huasi is an accommodation space for those who wish to spend a few days of rest in contact with nature. The place regularly receives contingents of students from UNLP schools, as well as from different provinces who come to La Rioja to go on a study and exchange trip with schools in the area.

The farm also has a Museum where guided tours are offered daily for schoolchildren and the general public. Attendees can take a tour of an Iconography room where the life and work of Joaquín V. González is reflected, the “Antonio Alice” Painting Room, an exhibition room of native birds and an area especially dedicated to the exhibition of mineralogy. .

The facilities are also used to hold conferences and conferences of national, provincial and municipal interest.

The house retains its colonial origin and parts of it were adapted as accommodation for all teaching workers and Nodocentes of the UNLP.

Inside the estate you can enjoy the Regional Museum “My Mountains”, which includes the Antonio Alice art gallery that contains important works by nationally renowned painters, and the Natural Sciences, Mineralogy and Archeology Room. This exhibits minerals, animals, plants and aboriginal pieces.

Additionally, inside the house, two rooms were intended to reflect González’s life. In one of them, the bedroom of the creator of the Labor and Mining Code is recreated, with some personal objects. The second room is an iconographic room where various portraits and photographs of González are presented, along with various pieces written by the founder and first rector of the UNLP.
