The Governor of Tarapacá, José Miguel Carvajal, met with the Bishop of the Diocese of Iquique, Monsignor Isauro Covili, to announce the details of the recent award of the project “Restoration of the esplanade and surroundings of the Church of La Tirana” .

The initiative will involve 11,300 square meters of surface, which translates into restoring and unifying on a single level the esplanade and streets that are inserted in the square meters. An area of ​​intervention that includes Obispado streets, to the east, Eleuterio Ramírez, to the south, Diecisis de Julio, to the west, and Andrés Farías, to the north. Street recently repaired through another project promoted by the Regional Government of Tarapacá.

Likewise, the project will seek to provide universal accessibility with the expansion of existing ramps and construction of metal railings, in addition to proposing the installation of shade and lighting with underground electrical system, in addition to the improvement of existing planters and trees, among others. measures.

The Regional Governor of Tarapacá said “we are very happy with the fact of taking a very significant step and being able to materialize one of the most anticipated projects by the Tarapacá community, which is the new esplanade of the town of La Tirana, the most important place for demonstrations.” of the faith of the Great North of Chile.”

“It is a heritage work, very emblematic, that had to go through many processes, such as the authorizations of the National Monuments Council and other technical entities, to be able to finally say that our project is advancing at a steady pace and that they will soon tell with a new esplanade to enjoy the Virgen del Carmen every July 16,” said the highest regional authority, who was emphatic in pointing out that, after the design, the Regional Government of Tarapacá will advance in the execution of these works that have I have been waiting for so long for the religious dances, the pilgrims and the families of the town of La Tirana.

Meanwhile, the head of the Infrastructure, Transportation and Telecommunications Division of Gore Tarapacá, Gissel Godoy, also expressed her happiness for the recent award of the consultancy that is around 143 million pesos, which came as a result of a long collaborative work. between professionals from the Tarapacá Corporation and the Gore Tarapacá DITT itself.

“This is a challenging initiative in multiple dimensions, including heritage, the intervention of a public space in a spatial context of religious relevance at the national level and, of course, that which has to do with the participations of the communities associated with the town, in daily life and in those that are related to the La Tirana Festival.”

In this sense, Gissel explained that all these aspects came together in the formulation of the project and in the construction of the bidding bases, which allowed these values ​​to be evaluated in the different proposals of the bidders and their respective experiences.

“As a team we feel privileged to be active participants in the preservation of the material and intangible heritage that emanates from the celebration of the most important religious festival in Chile and, which turns out to be one of the most important identity components of the Tarapaqueños,” the DIT chief closed.
