There are few worse ways to lose than when you score at the end. That’s what happened to Chile against Argentina on the second date of Group A of the America Cup.
Ricardo Gareca’s team had played a perfect defensive game, nullifying the arrivals of the trans-Andean team. However, it was clear that, when those at the bottom failed, there was also a saving hand that allowed them to get excited.
We are talking about Claudio Bravo. The 41-year-old goalkeeper is still strong and firm between the sticks. He saved not one against Argentina, but at least three clear goal attempts. He was simply the figure of the national team.
So much so that the Chilean goalkeeper took home the award for best player of the match. He is the second Chilean player to take home this award in two matches, despite not winning either.
Unexpected praise
The praise for Claudio Bravo did not come only from Chile. Clearly, Argentina saw how a great goalkeeper prevented them from clearly taking the lead, so they knew how to recognize his value.
One of those who came out to highlight the great meeting of the captain of the Red was Dibu Martínez. The Argentine goalkeeper, who also had valuable saves, applauded the performance of his Chilean counterpart.
“I told Claudio, I don’t know how he stays at that level at 41. The truth is, he played a great game,” said the Albiceleste goalkeeper, who also made the news for celebrating the goal in the faces of the Chilean fans.
Now, all that remains is to focus on Canada. Chile will face the Americans this Saturday at 8:00 p.m. in Orlando, Florida. For Ricardo Gareca’s team, only a win is enough.
