One of the symbols of the Duitama bullring was the monument of the Bogota bullfighter César Rincónwhich was removed from the vicinity of this stage by the Municipal Administration, causing great controversy.
The mayor of the ‘Perla de Boyacá’, José Luis Bohórquez, pointed out that said sculpture will be restored and installed in the vicinity of the ‘Everyone’s Square’.
“I make a clarity, Here we are not destroying, we are removing the sculpture of the bullfighters that was here, because a space that is going to celebrate life, theater, sports and peasant spaces and so on, there is no coherence with that. It is going to be removed, we are looking at it with IERD and others, because the idea is that hopefully on the sides of the square there will be a memory space and this monument can be installed and explain what happened here, so that the children also know what happened here. We respect the people who share that vision, but today there is a law of the republic that prohibits bullfighting and everything in life is changing, everything in life has spaces, so the idea is to transfer this and now, now This time has come, another is coming, the time of life and that is what we want to be constant,” said José Luis Bohórquez, mayor of Duitama.
On February 15, 2003, the sculpture of the Colombian bullfighter César Rincón was installed, which was designed by the Norte Santander sculptor Argemiro Díaz Moreno and after 21 years of remaining in the vicinity of the old bullring, it was removed.
After the removal of this monument, teacher Argmiro Díaz pointed out on his social networks “History will say that we were part of this work of art.”
