Cali Mobility officials captured for deleting 50,000 fines from the system

Three officials from the Cali Mobility Secretariat were captured by the Prosecutor’s Office for their alleged involvement in a fraudulent scheme to exempt traffic fines.

An investigation revealed that around 50,000 fines were illegally removed from the system, generating significant alarm in the municipal administration.

The alert was turned on when the Ministry of Mobility noticed an increase of 150% in exemptions from traffic fines during the first five months of the year., compared to the same period of the previous year. This unusual increase led to the opening of an internal investigation that uncovered irregularities.

“So far this year we have found some findings regarding the issue of the exemption of fines for traffic violations, in the period from January to May of this year the exemptions increased by 150% compared to the same period the immediately previous year” .

According to authorities, the fraud was discovered after a detailed analysis of the registered exonerations. In the month of May, more than 15,000 waived fines were detected, with a total value that exceeds 12,000 million pesos.
