The governor of Atlántico, Eduardo Verano, launched an ambitious comprehensive plan for the Punta Astilleros village in Piojó, one of the natural jewels of the department that was recently classified as the eighth most beautiful rural beach in the world by the International Beach Management and Certification Training Center.

This recognition not only puts Punta Astilleros on the global tourism map, but also encourages the departmental government to value and enhance its natural wealth with a focus on sustainable ecotourism.

The Punta Astilleros Comprehensive Plan includes a wide range of interventions aimed at improving the quality of life of the inhabitants and preparing the area for high-quality tourism.

Among the most notable actions are the provision of drinking water and basic sanitation, improvements in educational and health infrastructure, and support for entrepreneurs in the tourism sector.

“We want tourism of different quality, focused on beach observation and ecological and rest tourism. This is a wonderful space that God gave us in our department and we want to develop it in a sustainable way,” said Governor Verano.

Additionally, the governor highlighted the importance of working together with local communities to create a sustainable action plan with a strong ecotourism approach, always seeking to strengthen the strong areas and improve the weak ones, prioritizing the rural and sustainable character of the beach.

Verano emphasized the need for significant investment to ensure access to drinking water and basic sanitation in Punta Astilleros. “With the investments in the coastal aqueduct, we will guarantee water service in Punta Astilleros and the entire north of the department. During a meeting with locals, it was highlighted that 90% of the tourists who visit Punta Astilleros are foreigners attracted by the tranquility and unique landscapes of the place. With an offer of approximately 120 rooms in hostels and cabins, the community seeks to maintain rustic and attractive tourism.

The Undersecretary of Tourism, Jaime Alfaro, He recalled that since 2019 a Beach Planning Plan had been financed that included Punta Astilleros as a destination for contemplation and well-being, with a maximum capacity for 600 visitors. This plan focuses on activities that allow tourists to connect with nature and with themselves.

Roxana Herrera, president of the Action Board Communal of Punta Astilleros, highlighted the boom of the beach after its inclusion in the international ranking and its commitment to the conservation of the place. Armando de la Hoz, office advisor on Health matters, He assured that a comprehensive health process will be implemented, including vaccinations and medical check-ups, benefiting the 26 families identified in the village.

Finally, Governor Eduardo Verano expressed his dream of comprehensive development for the entire department of Atlántico, beyond traditional tourist areas such as Barranquilla.Tubará or Santa Verónica.
