The Regional Autonomous Corporation of Cundinamarca (CAR), in alliance with the Ministry of Transportation and the Superintendency of Transportation, announced a comprehensive surveillance and monitoring program for mobile sources and Automotive Diagnostic Centers (CDA).

According to the corporation,Its objective is to verify that the equipment used in technical-mechanical inspections is in optimal condition.of operation, calibration and measurement, thus ensuring compliance with current environmental regulations.

For his part, the director of the CAR, Alfred Ignacio Ballesteros, pointed out that“this initiative after a meeting with representatives of the transportation sector of the National Government.This new surveillance model, which will be implemented for the first time, will employ state-of-the-art equipment and innovative technology.”

“In our new Four-Year Action Plan we have committed to implementing strategies to protect air quality through operations carried out in conjunction with the National Police.“This will allow us to identify vehicles that do not comply with the technical and mechanical inspection regulations and guarantee that they do not emit pollutants.”stated director Ballesteros.

The environmental authority also explained thatThe strategy will also strengthen the supervision of quality parameters in the CDAs,ensuring that the certifications issued effectively contribute to environmental protection by controlling polluting emissions in real time.

Finally, the CAR promised to intensify monitoring and control of emissions at key points such as transportation terminals, tolls and free zones.This is especially relevant given that a large part of the vehicles that cross its territory, which includes 98 municipalities of Cundinamarca,six from Boyacá and the rural area of ​​the Capital District are passing through and have not obtained their technical and mechanical certifications from the local CDAs.
