Gustavo Petro, president of Colombia, was booed in Cauca and where he arrived in the last hours at the launch of ‘Cauca Mission’ that seeks to give a boost to this department hit by the acts of violence, the most recent case was the one that occurred in Morales.
Videos of the moment went viral on social networks and after those affected by the violence were not heard by the Colombian leader.
Petro gave his speech and left the auditorium, amidst shouts and demands.
“The president cannot retire without speaking to those affected by this conflict”
The inhabitants came with a certain discomfort with the president and since on May 20 he did not arrive to Cauca, in his place were the vice president, Francia Márquez, and the Minister of the Interior, Luis Fernando Velasco.
This time, Petro arrived in Popayán after 2 in the afternoon at the airport Guillermo León Valencia of Popayán, and it was delayed due to bad weather conditions.

Petro: “Children, shield of those armed against the State”
In the speech, the president assured that when the State does not build the roads, the drug traffickers do them and thus win over the population.
“If the drug traffickers take over the population, the children take up arms and if they are in arms, you cannot bomb,” said Petro.
“The children of Cauca become the shield of those armed against the State”
According to the president himself, “There are 350 indigenous children recruited, that for me is a crime against humanity.”
He also stated that “a child is not a combatant, a hostage and when there are several it is hostage taking, when there are several it is a systematic hostage taking.”
According to Petro “The population of Cauca has been taken as the object of a crime against humanity so that the State does not clash militarily with those of the bisnes”
What is Cauca Mission:
This initiative led by the Ministry of Defense that seeks the transformation of Cauca through strengthening control of the territory and replacing illicit economies.
It is part of the National Development Plan and proposes a coordinated intervention between the State, communities, local authorities and the private sector.
The strategy covers economic, productive, cultural and social aspects, with the aim of building a more just and inclusive society in Cauca.

The strategy focuses on strengthening military and police operations to neutralize armed groups and illicit economies related to drug trafficking, illegal mining and extortion.
Through comprehensive governance and intensified actions, ‘Cauca Mission’ seeks to restore tranquility to the inhabitants of the department.
At this event, the mayor of Popayán, Juan Carlos Muñoz, demanded at the opening that it rain not the bombs but the seeds; coffee, corn. “One calls for war and violence, and the other calls for peace and progress.”
Cauca Mission is an initiative of the Ministry of Defense to help the population affected by violence.
