On June 25, the programming for the second half of 2024 of the Valle del Cauca Dance and Choreography Center La Licorera was presented, which was attended by the governor of Valle del Cauca, Dilian Francisca Toro and its director Mariana Garcés Córdoba.

“The center is a space of national and international connection that proposes the city of Cali and Valle del Cauca, as the epicenter of dance and as a space for creation and dialogue between genres, generations and knowledge connected to each other to think about the future. of Colombian dance. For this second semester it will have connection spaces with local and international artists, workshops, residencies, special events, calls and exhibitions”, explains its programming director, Juan Pablo López.

In December 2024, the Valle del Cauca Dance and Choreography Center La Licorera will celebrate five years of operation. Since then she has conducted more than 60 free workshops and residencies for the national dance community from which an average of more than 1,500 attendees have benefited.

It is important to highlight that this place has been the epicenter of the latest versions of the Cali International Dance Biennial. Another of the notable events was the European tour of the Sankofa Danzafro company, coordinated by the Dance Center and is so far the most important tour of a national dance group in Europe. There were 22 presentations in the most relevant dance theaters in Spain and France, including the Teatro de la Ville in Paris and the Maison de la Danse in Lyon.

  • ‘Nos Miran’ by Cali photographer Carolina Navas, which brings together portraits of the dancers of the Pacific Dance group from Tumaco, one of which is the official image of the 2024 program and the Bodies of Light Exhibition by the American photographer based in Cali Rob Woodcox.

  • The Valle del Cauca Dance and Choreography Center will host 12 residencies and workshops, some in association with the Cali International Dance Biennial that will take place next year.
  • The Center will carry out various special projects, including the dance and fashion laboratory ‘Faldas para Bailar’, which is currently on display, as well as the ‘Architectures of the Body’ project and the ‘Dance has the Word’ program. All created in order to demonstrate the dialogue of dance with other disciplines.
  • Community Hall is the transversal community axis that opens the La Licorera Dance Center program to community dance in the city, with the projects ‘Communities in Movement’, ‘Asi Bailo Yo’ and various thematic and free activities for various population groups of the city.
  • The International Network of the Valle del Cauca Dance and Choreography Center, La Licorera, expands in 2024 and thanks to this, residencies are held for the choreographer Rafael Palacios at the Vila Velha theater in Salvador de Bahía in Brazil and Andrea Bonilla, a Cali choreographer at the Festival coming soon from the KVS theater in Brussels in Belgium.

Likewise, the participation of two dancers from the Incolballet Contemporary Dance Company in the Camping program of the National Dance Center of Paris was finalized.

In 2024, the Valle del Cauca Dance and Choreography Center will once again join the 7th Cali International Dance Biennial to provide stimuli for creation, research and research for $135 million pesos in a public and national call.

The Dance and Choreography Center of Valle del Cauca La Licorera is part of the network of national Dance and Movement Centers of the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Knowledge of Colombia.

The Ministry of Culture, Arts and Knowledge, Idartes, the Julio Mario Santo Domingo Theater, the Goethe Institut, the French Embassy and the National Center for the Arts, are some of the national allies of this programming that proposes a network national circulation of the performing arts in Colombia.
