Students from the School of Pedagogy and Institute of History carried out the seventh version of “Heritage Invasion”, a Linkage with the Environment project, aimed at students from educational establishments in the Valparaíso Region, which encourages the recognition and valorization of heritage through of recreational and didactic practices.

On this occasion, the intervention had the participation of more than 680 schoolchildren from the Seminario San Rafael school, who were able to learn more about the physical and intellectual heritage that surrounds the El Almendral neighborhood through games, such as puzzles, memorizations, lines of time and treasure hunts.

This activity is part of the actions of the Institutional Strategic Development Plan 2023-2029, which stipulates developing instruments that ensure curricular spaces for Linking with the Environment in the training of students and, in turn, deepening the bidirectionality of the University with society to strengthen the quality and relevance of fundamental tasks such as teaching.

In this sense, Pablo García, professor at the Institute of History and manager of the Heritage Laboratory, pointed out that “we believe that education is a fundamental pillar for the promotion and enhancement of heritage, especially thinking about environments like Valparaíso. In that sense, the Laboratory, through our teachers in training, seeks to provide knowledge so that in the future these students can incorporate the knowledge acquired in the future tasks that they will assume in their professional life.”

Cristóbal Olivares, a Pedagogy student in Basic Education with a major in History, commented that participating in this activity “has helped improve my skills in the organization and execution of the tasks that a teacher has in the classroom. It seems essential to me that the University carries out this type of initiatives, since university activity should always be in the community, which is why it is essential that it makes us leave the classrooms.”

On the other hand, Javiera Seguel, a student of Pedagogy in Basic Education, explained that “the idea of the project is to make schoolchildren understand that heritage is also what they inhabit daily, that is, the environment, such as the schools and streets of the neighborhood they walk through. Heritage education allows us to give an important value to it and, in turn, want to take care of it.”

Finally, the deputy director of the Project, Oscar Valenzuela, added that “this project fulfills a fundamental task in the professional future of our students, given that they perform functions very similar to those they will carry out when they are teachers, such as designing and developing methods. of learning, accompanying first and second cycle students.”
