The president of the House of the Americas, Abel Prieto, addressed today in this heritage city of Cuba what concerns the National Program Sowing ideas, sowing consciousness, with a view to confronting cultural colonization.

It meant that this phrase, used as the title of the aforementioned program, was expressed by the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution Fidel Castro Ruz (1926-2016).

Later, the renowned Cuban intellectual referred to the hegemonic entertainment industry and cultural colonization through symbols and video games, even with “concepts of success and happiness, cataloging success as accumulating wealth.”

He stressed that it is necessary to lead new generations to think, given the phenomenon of social networks that multiply colonizing messages, which is why he mentioned the importance of imbuing this battle with science, without turning our backs on technology.

We must use technologies to educate, invite reflection and defend our culture and identity, he said.

There were several interventions, among them that of Andrei Armas, general director of Education in the province, who pointed out that in Cuban schools there are all the tools to counteract cultural globalization.

This Saturday the president of the Casa de las Américas shared concepts and opinions with intellectuals, artists and directors of Sancti Spíritus, province hosting the national event for July 26, National Rebellion Day.

Meanwhile, fellow intellectual Luis Morlote, an official of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC), stated that this is a program that integrates a group of programs conceived by the Revolution, such as the one related to the fight against racism.

In Sancti Spíritus there is an undeniable historical and cultural tradition, said Morlote, alluding to the musical career and in this he mentioned the Sancti Spíritus trova.

Finally, he expressed that this territory “can be a model in this program for the country and that this be assumed as a priority.”

The meetings will take place in all the provinces of Cuba, taking into account that the largest of the Antilles does not remain immune to the negative effects of cultural globalization.

Abel Prieto was also accompanied by Deivy Pérez, member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) and first secretary in the territory.
