An important process that has just happened at the Autonomous University of San Luis Potosí (UASLP) is the election of the directors of the faculties and multidisciplinary academic units, as well as the Matehuala High School, “this is a process that is carried out “Every 4 years in the year of the election of the rector, it is carried out in the month of June, and for us the process is very important in which we have been continually monitoring that it is carried out in accordance with the organic statute, which is our maximum regulations,” said Alejandro Zermeño Guerra, rector of the UASLP.
He highlighted that “of all the 19 entities, 18 are perfectly determined, there was a disagreement that is ongoing; when the technical councils receive the files of the applicants, if there are three they only send them to me, so that I can put them in contact and at the disposal of the Council University Director, which is the authority that elects the directors, the directors are not elected by the rector, they are elected by the University Board of Directors, which is the highest University authority,” he said.

Zermeño Guerra pointed out that “if there are more than four, as stipulated in the statute, if there are more than four people who comply with the regulations, those files have to be sent to the rectory, and with the powers that are given to me, I choose the shortlist that is made available to the University Board of Directors; in this case there were institutions that sent 11, for example the Matehuala High School, others sent nine, others sent four, etc. All this is fulfilled in accordance with the statute and the shortlist is sent to the University Board of Directors”.
Disagreement in he Habitat
The rector pointed out that “one of the things that is discontenting the Habitat community is that the Technical Advisory Council made a selection of three, of all the candidates that were presented, and they do not have that power, because the power to appoint the director “It is exclusively the University Board of Directors, so when there are more than four it is stipulated that they have to send all the files to the rectory, and the shortlist is chosen there.”
Zermeño Guerra continued pointing out that, “66% of their request was respected, however they had ruled out without any justification, what is also in the organic statute, which is the possibility of a director who is in office, and who has possibilities due to time to present a re-election, it can be presented, that is stipulated, a director has the right to a re-election, which is not automatic, of course it has to be evaluated by the Board of Directors, but he does have reasons to be on that shortlist.
In this sense, he mentioned that “of the things that are causing disagreement, and that we are already dealing with the authorities of the Faculty of Habitat, and some members of the Technical Council, to see compliance with this regulation, unfortunately there are factors external forces that are pushing the community to make some incorrect reactions, there is a group of officials that is trying to get into university life.

Finally, he mentioned that “respect and defense of autonomy is something that all members of the university community have to exercise, and this is a situation that must be resolved within the university environment, complying with the regulations of the organic statute which is the that governs us; the rest of the university communities are working perfectly well, we are throughout the university preparing the admission exam, which is a very important exam for society and we have to continue working so that all applicants have the opportunity to enter the UASLP”.
