Last May 1st the Public Force recorded the first attack with drones in the El Plateado district, Cauca. Since then, there have been repeated attacks perpetrated by dissidents, under the command of Iván Mordisco, using these devices.
The most recent case occurred on Sunday afternoon when the Búfalo 1 and Antelope 3 troops, of the Infantry Battalion No. 8 Battle Pichincha, of the Third Brigade, were attacked with explosive devices launched from drones. Due to this, three soldiers were injured but not seriously.
The situation is serious, which is why the National Government is looking for urgently implemented alternatives that allow neutralizing the use of this technology in war. However, the atmosphere of anxiety and fear among the inhabitants of the rural areas of Cauca prevails, since the drones do not specify the location of the target to be hit and It already happened that one of the devices fell in the middle of a residential area, leaving several civilians injured, right there in the department of Cauca.
According to military intelligence, the dissidents implemented drones into their equipment after verifying their effective use in the war between Russia and Ukraine. It was also revealed that the dissidents gained confidence in the handling of the devices after establishing contact with a person from abroad. who would have given them instructions on the use of the drones.
“Multi-crime is copied from what you see elsewhere. The war between Russia and Ukraine has shown the use of these drones and that is what they are trying to use in an incisive way. “And I say incised because they are imprecise weapons and are unsafe,” confirmed the commander of the National Army, General Luis Emilio Cardozo.
The drones that the dissidents have in their possession are free to trade and sell. They are purchased in chain stores, in San Andresitos in the main cities and online.. They generally look for, according to intelligence sources, the most economical ones but that can carry up to a kilogram of weight.
To contain these attacks, The Military Forces are in testing operations of a sophisticated anti-drone system, whose implementation will be carried out once the necessary studies and tests are completed.

“We are in the acquisition of anti-drone systems, for now we are testing them on the ground, we are testing to the extent that the anti-drones are effective we will make the acquisitions“added the Army commander.
The truth is that the resources have already been allocated to acquire the defense system. “For these purchases, we already have the necessary economic resources to acquire a first batch of these systems, which will be distributed strategically in military units deployed in different parts of the national geography, including Cauca,” said the commander of the Military Forces, General Helder Giraldo.
