More of 43,000 vehicles in the province of Córdoba They do not have the Technical Inspection in force, known as ITV. To a greater extent, it occurs in the capital, in Puente Genil, and in Lucena, according to data extracted from the DGT through an analysis prepared by the Mechanical Reports group. There are 18,000 passenger cars, 11,000 motorcycles and 14,000 vehicles of different categories such as vans, trucks or mopeds, which are less than 25 years old – although not all of them are on the road. The automobile park in the province of Córdoba has 579,644 vehicles, which represents 9.2% of Andalusia, 69% being passenger cars and 11% motorcycles.. The 22%, according to data provided to this chain by the Traffic Headquarters in Córdobais more than 10 years old.

This data also includes those that are abandoned, disused or in garages without administrative deregistration having been processed. Of this total number, the DGT has reported that, throughout 2024 so far, Civil Guard and Local Police have filed up to 3,795 complaints due to expired ITV in Córdoba, which is then processed by the General Directorate of Traffic itself. The financial fine ranges between 200 and 500 euros.

Sergio Arboledas, General Director of Mechanical Reports, states in COPE that the reasons for the high number of vehicles without the technical inspection in force are usually due to “economic reasons.” “People don’t have to worry about saving money, but they are not aware of the danger that it generates for other drivers or the problem that you can get into in the event of an accident because the insurance does not cover it.

ITV control through the cameras installed in the city

The DGT has already activated surveillance through cameras in many areas of Spain, especially in capitals such as Madrid or Seville, to monitor vehicles that circulate without a technical inspection in force. In many cases, the surveillance cameras of the Low Emission Zones of the municipalities are collaborating with the DGT to avoid accidents due to poor control of the health of a vehicle. Municipal sources have not been able to confirm to COPE whether or not Córdoba falls within that map of cities.
