On his recent visit to Misiones, Fernando Camargo, the new Representative of the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) in Argentina, highlighted the strategic importance of this province in the field of bioeconomy. Camargo, who leads IICA present in 35 countries in Latin America, North America and Central America, underlined the objective of promoting and developing agriculture in the region.

«Today and tomorrow we are on this visit to Misiones to find common bioeconomy projects“Camargo mentioned, referring to his recent meetings, including a visit to the local biofactory. “It is very interesting to think about what we can do together in Misiones on agricultural issues, diverse from bioeconomy and agricultural technology,” he added.

The representative of IICA clarified that his institution does not function as a credit bank, but as a cooperation agency. «We can support the formulation of projects for large investment banks such as the World Bank and the IDB. We do not have funds to invest directly, but we do assist the provinces and states in the creation of projects to obtain financing,” explained Camargo.

When asked about the sectors that currently receive the most funding, Camargo highlighted: “Currently, all bioeconomy projects are very interesting, especially those that address topics such as agriculture, circular economy, biosafety and green economy.”

Regarding the position of Misiones in the development of these projects, Camargo stated: “Misiones is a key province, because it is the province with the largest biodiversity in Argentina and they have a fantastic systemic service capacity.”

Fernando Camargo’s visit highlights the potential collaboration between IICA and Misiones in promoting innovative and sustainable initiatives in the agricultural sector and the bioeconomy. With this exploration of opportunities, it is expected to strengthen ties of international cooperation for economic and environmental development in the region.
