A home in the Hacienda Santa Cruz de Ibagué was completely destroyed due to a structural fire caused, apparently, by candles lit inside an alleged witchcraft sanctuary.
The emergency occurred on the morning of Tuesday, June 22, in an apartment located on the ninth floor of the Hacienda Santa Cruz, in the ninth commune of the capital of Tolima. Jean Pineda, director of the Official Fire Department, reported that, fortunately, there were no people inside the apartment at the time of the emergency, so there were no injuries. However, the material damage was significant.
“This incident occurred on the ninth floor and the cause of the fire is that there were several candles lit inside the place and the apartment was empty at the time the conflagration occurred,” Pineda stated. According to images of the fire, it appears that a witchcraft sanctuary operated in the house, which may have caused the emergency.

Given this fact, citizens are called upon to avoid leaving candles lit in their homes, especially when they are not at home. The community is also invited to report any emergency to line 123 of the National Police, since traditional line 119 has suffered damage.
“It is recommended that the entire community be very careful when lighting any type of candle inside their homes, make sure that they are not adjacent to fans, curtains, stoves or any other element that could generate an emergency and, above all, it is It is very important that if you are going to leave your homes, you completely extinguish the candles,” Pineda emphasized.
