These systems contribute to water savings, increase efficiency and replace damaged or obsolete equipment, mainly in the areas of the Turquino Plan and others dedicated to the implementation of agroecological techniques.

Geovanny Zaldívar Martínez, subdelegate of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment, highlighted to ACN that the strategy has improved agricultural work on more than 400 hectares and there are projections of continuing to install these machines.

He stressed that 69 varieties of foods and vegetables resistant to the adverse effects of climate change are also grown, gradually widespread in soil demonstration polygons and other spaces dedicated to this purpose.

The manager said that in the territory there are 12 forest farms and economic incentives are promoted for producers who collaborate with the protection of the environment and sustainable development, through objectives aimed at increasing the quality and yield of the crops.

This strategy is also part of the implementation of Task Life, the Cuban State’s plan to confront climate change, extended to more than 70 municipalities in the country.

Holguín also benefits from two international projects that provide technologies, equipment and the necessary implements to increase coffee production in mountainous municipalities such as Sagua de Tánamo.

The province has five territorial programs that promote food procurement, the use of renewable energy and local development, among the themes prioritized by the government management of the largest of the Antilles.
