Due to the escalation of violence and insecurity that has been registered in recent days in Valle del Cauca, Governor Dilian Francisca Toro and different regional leaders; They have sent a letter to President Gustavo Petro and the Minister of Defense, Iván Velásquez. In this they request a special hearing to address this situation.

Although the letter acknowledges the support received from the Ministry of Defense, They argue that strong measures are required to face; and stop the various forms of crime that affect the area.

“Valle del Cauca is going through a difficult moment that affects us all; various groups outside the law, from different fronts and actions, have launched a criminal attack against the southwestern region of Colombia; which must be treated as a national security problem with a tendency to escalate to other regions of the country and not as isolated events that only affect the Valle del Cauca business fabric, leave people injured and dead, stigmatize different territories and, worst of all, cause fear among citizens who live in permanent anxiety.

Measures to confront the security crisis in the Valley

In the document, it was noted the urgency of strengthening the Police, the Army and other security organizations with improvements in logistics, intelligence, increased force; increase in flight hours and the taking of forceful actions against criminal infrastructure.

Furthermore, it asks the National Government to act against the structures detected in the rural area of ​​Jamundísuch as an illegal highway and gasoline stations that would be used by the Jaime Martínez structure of the FARC dissidents.

For their part, the unions have expressed their willingness to collaborate from various sectors to stop the actions of criminals. This, promoting initiatives that facilitate the substitution of illicit economies, the generation of employment and the environmental conservation of the territory.

It should be noted that the letter has the signatures of the governor of ValleDilian Francisca Toro; the mayor of CaliAlejandro Eder; and 50 other people. Among them, including representatives of civil society, the Catholic Church, economic unions, senators, community leaders, universities and representatives to the Chamber, among others.
