Stopped, unregistered or unregistered meters: results of IBAL’s Fraud Hunter

Every week the IBAL Fraud Hunting squad delivers results of users and merchants in the Musical Capital who are illegally connected to the company’s aqueduct system.

On this occasion, Sandra Vélez, Commercial Director, reported that there were evidence of people and businessmen with stopped meters, without records and others, without the proper registration with the IBAL.

“In the latest operations carried out, alleged frauds have been found in commercial establishments where one of them, especially those that operate in wagons, did not have meters and drank the water directly without complying with the protocols to carry out the proper registration and payment of the service, affecting the users who are legalized,” Vélez explained.

Likewise, he called to avoid illegality and the complaints that as a company must be made to the control entities for the respective sanctions, fines and other criminal issues that these types of crimes entail.

The official also reiterated that as IBAL it is governed by Law 142 of 1994, which seeks to protect water resources and guarantee a fair and sustainable service for all, as well as the Penal Code in its article 256, which establishes sanctions for those who carry out fraudulent connections or water theft.

Finally, in figures, the director pointed out that so far in 2024, approximately 12 cases have been detected in administrative study, with the highest number of illegal connections in invasion areas such as La Gaviota, Picaleña, El Salado, among others.
