The Artisanal Fishermen’s Unions of the Portales and El Membrillo coves They announced the activities they have prepared for the Festival of San Pedro 2024 that will take place next Saturday, June 29, and that, as is tradition, will have its processions by land and sea, accompanied by Chinese dances and their bronze bands , fried fish sales and live music.
Mario Caverlotti, president of the Caleta El Membrillo Fishermen’s Unioninvited you to enjoy this festivity. “We are going to celebrate all day, we will go down with the Saints from the San Pedro Church in Playa Ancha to Caleta el Membrillo. And from Caleta El Membrillo to the Prat Pier, from where we will take a trip across the sea. We invite everyone to eat an inexpensive fried fish. Join us in this beautiful festivity”he claimed.
Meanwhile, in Caleta Portales the celebrations begin on Friday, June 28, with a procession by land from the cove to the Nuestra Señora de Lourdes del Cerro Placeres parish. About programming, the president of the Caleta Portales Fishermen’s Union, Pedro Tognio, detailed: “We leave on Friday at 6:30 p.m. onwards. We brought two Chinese dances together with children and grandchildren of fishermen who are also part of the Chinese dances. The next day the mass begins at 9:00 a.m., and we march towards the cove with more than 500 people. The surprise is that from one in the afternoon we will have a free cold fish for the entire community.”
The Citizen Mayor’s Office of Valparaíso supports this religious and traditional festival by providing cleaning and security services, in addition to being part of the line of work of promotion and local economic development together with the fishing communities. In this regard, the director of Economic Development and International Cooperation of the Buenos Aires municipality, Adriana Saavedra, pointed out that “This is part of all the identities of Valparaíso and, above all, it is part of one of the most important sectors of the city’s economy. “We have made all our departments available to support and protect the Buenos Aires community and raise the quality of what we are doing.”
