Loki went from being a detestable villain to one of the most important and beloved characters in all of Marvel Studios.

Many actors have passed through Marvel Studios over the years, but few have left as deep a mark on the company as Tom Hiddleston. With his role as the God of Deception, he established himself as one of the best performers to have worked at the studio. However, his audition process for the role of Loki was quite peculiar.

In an interview with the Seaman Says podcast, the British actor shared details about his audition for Marvel. Initially, Hiddleston auditioned to play thor, the God of thunder. However, before beginning acting, he signed a contract that allowed Marvel to cast him in two main characters in the film.

“It was really funny… This is very normal in the business, but I signed. Basically, they pre-negotiated my contract before I went [a la audición] and I signed it. But I realized that morning, it said, ‘Marvel Studios has the right to cast Tom Hiddleston in the role of…’ and there was a blank space and someone had written: ‘Thor/Loki.'”

Marvel evidently recognized Hiddleston’s talent, so they gave him a dual opportunity, even though he originally only auditioned for the role of Thor. Finally, the role of Thor went to Chris Hemsworth, while Hiddleston became one of the best villains the studio has ever produced.

Loki made his first appearance in the film Thor, and since then his role as the God of Lies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe became increasingly important with each film in which he appeared. Initially, he was the main antagonist in The Avengers, but later evolved into a more complex and ambiguous role with the Loki series, which has become one of Marvel Studios’ most acclaimed productions in recent years.
