The boss of Marvel Studios had his ups and downs with the ideas to integrate the Merc with a Mouth into the MCU
The premiere of ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’ is getting closer, and the fandom’s expectations about the only Marvel movie of 2024 – thank heaven – have been increasing progressively as new advances have been seen of the landing of the Merc with a Mouth in the MCU alongside Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine. But be careful, because the movie could have been very, very different which will reach our movie theaters.
Wolverine
As Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige confirmed to Empire, initially tried to dissuade Jackman from putting himself in the shoes of Weapon X again after having closed his dramatic arc in the best possible way in James Mangold’s remarkable ‘Logan’: “I said, ‘Let me give you some advice, Hugh. Don’t come back.’ ‘He had the best ending ever with ‘Logan’. That’s not something we should undo.”
But the paths of the multiverse are inscrutable. And the actor himself, who explained in another interview with Empire that ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’ will show “different aspects of Wolverine that we haven’t seen before in other movies”revealed to SiriusXM the secret weapon that ended up convincing Kevin Feige: This Wolverine will not be the same as in ‘Logan’.
“It’s all thanks to this device they have in the Marvel world that allows them to move between timelines. Now we can go back because, you know, it’s science. So I don’t have to interfere with ‘Logan’s’ timeline, which It was important to me. And I think probably to the fans as well.”

However, this was not the only point that made Feige distrust the ‘Deadpool 3’ that Ryan Reynolds had put on the table. The producer also completely discarded the pitch original from canadian, which sold the feature film as a kind of ‘Rashomon’ with superheroes. Specifically, Reynolds’ approach was the following:
“A ‘Rashomon’ story about Wolverine and Deadpool and something they got into together, but told from three completely different perspectives. It was a way to make a large-scale movie in a very small way.”
But Kevin didn’t have everything with him and rejected the proposal:
“The truth is, I wasn’t even sure how to bring Deadpool in yet. I was thinking a lot about how to bring the mutants and the X-Men into the game.” [MCU], and I thought it needed to be more than just playing the greatest hits. But the truth is that Ryan is an idea machine. So he may have proposed that to me, but he also proposed 25 other ideas and thoughts.”
And what did Reynolds do? According to him he has assured, write almost twenty new treatments with different approaches in terms of scale and budget:
“I sat back down and wrote about 18 different treatments. Some of them were almost like a Sundance movie, with a budget of less than $10 million, using the intellectual property in a way they hadn’t previously used, and I proposed bigger movies, and I proposed things in between.”
