A small independent project that finally arrives in Spain after storming all the festivals in the world

Stephen King is a regular on social media, which he uses to give his opinion on some of the most recent films in the genre. Now the master of horror has done it again, this time praising a film that has gone unnoticed by the general public, a small Spanish horror production that has been through festivals and has just obtained distribution in Spain through Filminwhich will premiere as a film on May 17.

The teacher has spoken

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), King I only had positive things to say about ‘The Dining Table’, directed by Caye Casas and starring Josep Riera, David Pareja, Estefanía de los Santos and Claudia Riera.:

“My guess is that you’ve never, not once in your entire life, seen a movie as dark as this one. It’s horrible and also horribly funny. Think of the Coen Brothers’ darkest dream.”

The premise of ‘The Dining Room Table’ seems innocuous enough. A couple going through a rough patch in their relationship decides to have a baby and, with a little luck, start over. To help shape their life as parents, they pick up their newborn to go furniture shopping, buying a coffee table that supposedly has unbreakable glass. It is a decision that has irreparable consequences and changes their lives forever.

Originally premiered in 2022 at the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival in Estonia, ‘The Dining Table’ debuted in North America a few days ago on Prime Video. In Spain it has been seen at different festivals, but it had not achieved a commercial release in our country, perhaps precisely because it is as dark as King says. EITHER maybe because more than darkness it has quite bad taste and it is quite amateurish in its finish. Finally, the Filmin platform has announced its premiere, announcing it precisely by quoting King on networks. The question is what will become of this type of projects in Spain if King stops commenting on his tastes publicly.
