Tom Hardy played his first major role in the tenth part of a legendary science fiction franchise, but it was a complete failure

Tom Hardy is not only one of the most sought-after actors in Hollywood, but also the star of several successful franchises. He was seen as Venom in two Marvel blockbusters (Part 3 releases October 24), in The dark knight giving life to Bane and, of course, he also played the lead role in, perhaps, the best action film in the history of cinema as it is Mad Max: Fury Road.

In recent years, it has been rumored that the actor’s name appears as a favorite to play James Bond. But his beginnings were quite difficult. Hardy had his second film role in a major science fiction blockbuster, but this was also responsible for putting an end (temporarily) to a legendary saga.

Star Trek: Nemesis It was the tenth film in theaters Star Trek released in 2002. Patrick Stewart made his final film appearance to date here as Captain Jean-Luc Picard, his most iconic role, which was later reprized in the series Star Trek: Picard in 2020.

In addition to already known actors from the saga such as Jonathan Frakes and Brent Spiner, there were also some new additions to Star Trek: Nemesisincluding newcomer Tom Hardy, who until then had only had small roles such as in blood brothers or the movie Black Hawk down and now he gave life to the villain of Star Trek: Nemesis like Picard’s clone, Shinzon.

But the movie turned out to be a disaster. With a budget of 60 million dollars, Star Trek: Nemesis raised alone 67 million at the box office, becoming the biggest failure of the acclaimed science fiction saga.

In his memoirs, Patrick Stewart recalled the unpopular film that caused the franchise to be scrapped (before JJ Abrams successfully revived it with a new team and a new focus on Star Trek 2009). And the actor doesn’t have very good words for Tom Hardy.

He is the only Marvel villain who has been successful with his saga and his sequel arrives this year: It is the last time for the character

Stewart describes the actor as a “strange, lonely guy who never interacted with any of us on a social level. He never said ‘good morning’ or ‘good night’ and spent unnecessary hours in his dressing room with his girlfriend. She was not hostile in any way, but it was difficult to build a relationship with him.”

According to Stewart, after Tom shot his final scene, he left the studio “abruptly and rudely” by simply walking out the door without saying goodbye (reportedly Insider):

As he closed the door, he quietly said to Bren Spiner and Jonathan Frakes, ‘And here goes someone we’ll probably never hear from again.’ I can only be glad that Tom proved him wrong
