This Saturday, the Plaza de la Constitución in Mexico City vibrated to the rhythm of the group Interpol, attracting an impressive total of 160,000 spectators. This event was confirmed by Martí Batres, Jefe of Government of CDMX. However, this number fails to surpass the figures achieved by other artists who have filled the same stage in previous years.

Among the most attended concerts in the Zócalo, Los Fabulosos Cadillacs top the list with 300,000 attendees on June 3, 2023, followed by Grupo Firme with 280,000 on September 25, 2022, and Sir Paul McCartney, who brought together 250,000 people on the 10 May 2012. Other notable artists include Justin Bieber and Shakira, both with 210,000 viewers, Vicente Fernández with 217,000, and Roger Waters with 200,000 people in October 2016.

Over the years, the Zócalo has been the scene of numerous notable events, hosting artists of various kinds such as Café Tacvba, Manu Chao, Shakira, Silvio Rodríguez, Vicente Fernández, Britney Spears, Paul McCartney, Justin Bieber, Roger Waters, Grupo Firme, La Maldita Vecindad and los Hijos del Quinto Patio, Joan Manuel Serrat, Vivir Quintana, Rosalía and Grupo Frontera.

These events not only stand out for the size of the audience they manage to gather, but also for the wide range of musical genres they have represented, from rock to regional Mexican music, through international pop and rock legends. The Plaza de la Constitución’s capacity to host hundreds of thousands of people makes it a reference point for massive concerts in Mexico, evidencing the musical and cultural diversity that CDMX can offer residents and visitors alike.

The concert, despite the rain, was a total success. From the early hours of Saturday, the concentration of spectators began in front of the stage and as the hours passed, there were no empty spaces, which is why it was classified as a success to have brought the band American to play in the heart of CDMX, however on social networks users said they were grateful for having gone to listen to the band for free and also reminded the following rulers that it is worth holding this type of massive events that unite the citizenship.

They also recalled that the CDMX Government still has a debt and they hope in the future they can fulfill it by bringing Bad Bunny to play at the Zócalo.
