This Monday, June 24, Javier Milei ends his 9th trip abroad, within the framework of a complete tour that included awards and meetings in Madrid, Spain, and Berlin, Germany.

On his last day of the trip, the president of the Argentine Nation will have a similar agenda in the Czech Republic.

Milei will meet from 10:30 (Argentine time) with the Prime Minister of the Czech Republic, Petr Fiala. While at 3 p.m. she will share a private greeting with the President of the Czech Republic, Petr Pavel.

In between, at 12:15 (Argentine time), he was to be awarded by the Czech Liberal Institute, founded in 1990 under the name of FA Hayek Liberal Association with the aim of promoting the ideas of the economist of the same name.

The Liberal Institute maintains ideologies that draw parallels with those of the Argentine president, such as the search for a smaller State, tax reduction and deregulation. There are points of disagreement between the association and some statements by government officials regarding gender ideology and abortion.

But the real controversy occurs after a statement from the Liberal Institute, in which they assure that this Monday’s award is not the official one of the association and that it has already been delivered.

“There have been reports in the media that the Liberal Institute will present the 2024 Annual Prize to Javier Milei. Is not true. This message is being spread without authorization from us by people who have not participated in the activities of the Liberal Institute for several years, do not have any position in the institute and do not have the right to speak on its behalf,” indicates the publication on the site. Web.

The text then clarifies: “The director of the institute, the academic council, the director of research, the chief economist and other people who have really participated in the operation of the institute in recent years do not agree with the award of Javier Milei. The annual award for the year 2024 has already been awarded and was received by Alain Bertaud.”

From the liberal association they denounce Jiří Schwarz, one of the three founding economists and who was a government advisor between 2007 and 2009.

Jiri Schwarz.

Schwarz would no longer be part of the Institute: “We have waited until today with this opinion, because we have tried until the last moment to agree with the doc. Schwarz, who falsely organizes the event under the banner of the Liberal Institute. However, it is not possible to reach an agreement with him,” the publication concludes.

The Liberal Institute told El Litoral that “Mr. Schwarz has no right to give awards on behalf of our institute.”

The ceremony will take place at the Žofín Palace in the Czech capital, where Milei will give a short speech. The entrance fee is 1,490 Czech crowns, equivalent to about 64 US dollars.

Jiří Schwarz is currently rector of the Anglo-American Institute of Liberal Studies in Prague. He frequents publications in the media outlet Hospodarske Noviny, where he highlighted strong points of the libertarian’s management.

The former member of the Liberal Institute assessed that “he reduced the number of ministries by half, cut 50,000 jobs in the public sector, suspended the conclusion of new contracts and abolished subsidies on fuel and transport prices.” In addition, he highlighted the drop in the inflation rate.

The association assured this Sunday that his name will not be indicated during the ceremony and that it would be a personal award ceremony for Schwarz.
