PlayStation has patented an AI that will play for you to skip tedious, repetitive or sections that you cannot overcome in the game

As the company is rumored to be preparing for the launch of the PS5 Pro later in 2024, It’s also coming up with new technologies that could greatly change how games work.

In a world where staying ahead is essential, Sony has taken the bold steppresenting and patenting a new technology powered by artificial intelligence, the auto-play system. This system promises to transform the gaming experience by allowing autoplay specific parts of gameschallenging established conventions and offering new possibilities for players.

Sony has filed a patent that could be implemented to create a system powered by artificial intelligence which would allow players to skip game segments by using an “Auto-Play Mode”. According to the patent, the auto-play mode would use an artificial intelligence model to learn to simulate the style of play by obtaining information from cloud-based services such as PlayStation Network (PSN).

The patent comes with any ideas for the implementation of this new technology, such as emulate a player’s specific play style after learning from some repetitive gameplay sections, for example. One idea is to use it at the time of “grinding” of the game, giving the player the opportunity to activate the option AGC (anticipated grinding content) of the system before these perceived repetitive gameplay moments begin.

When playing, players would have the option to resume Auto-play Mode at any time or receive a notification after a certain grind section has been completed.

In summary, the system developed by sony leverages AI technology to learn how to play games using data from cloud services like PSN. Once trained, this model would be implemented to offer a Mode of Auto-play in PlayStation games, allowing players to skip tedious or repetitive sections of the game.

While this is certainly a controversial idea that won’t be viewed positively by many players, it could also be useful. Players who often play games that are too long and full of grind could potentially use this system to skip these sections, playing only the parts that entertain them.

Interestingly, the patent indicates that the system also could be used in third party gamessince it cites the use of data from cloud systems such as PSN during training of artificial intelligence, but, at this time, it is not entirely clear in which systems the technology described in this patent could be implemented.

Sony with many projects in mind

Apart from the Current PS5 and the rumored PS5 ProSony recently filed a patent supporting rumors of a console PlayStation laptop. So, time will tell if this potential Auto-play Mode will become a reality and what systems it will be available on.

It should be noted that this It is not the only patent related to artificial intelligence that Sony recently presented, since, in March, the console manufacturer also filed a patent that could facilitate how video game broadcasts react powered by artificial intelligence based on viewer comments.
