It is not the first time that the existence of a new team within PlayStation that has not been officially announced has been mentioned, but a former Deviation Games developer has spoken directly about the studio led by Jason Blundell, one of those responsible for the mode Zombies in the saga Call of Duty and campaign director Call of Duty Black Ops 2 and 3 on Treyarch.
Michael Anthony, a former employee of Deviation Games, has posted on Linkedin that many colleagues “they have formed their own studio at Sony to work on an undisclosed license”. Deviation Games had confirmed a game for PlayStation, but Sony dropped its support and the studio closed shortly after. Apparently the problem was not with its employees or the game, but with the culture of the studio or the board, so Sony would have hired the talent to remake the team from scratch.
“All the people I see working there are top developers and I hope they make a cutting-edge license,” says Anthony, who hopes they will be given “as much time as they need to create a quality product”. Deviation Games was founded in 2020 and did not have the opportunity to present its project before the closure.
What do we know about the game that Deviation Games was preparing?
Little has emerged from the game, although it has always been speculated that, based on the experience of its employees, it would be some shooter in first person. “We can say, yes, that it is a very ambitious project; a huge game packed with content with a strong action component and a lot of energy. That’s all I can tell you for now,” they commented on Deviation with the announcement of the game for Sony.
Firewalk (concord), which is a study with veterans of Destiny and Apex Legendsannounced a collaboration also in 2021 and were subsequently acquired by PlayStation.
