WhatsApp, Meta’s messaging application, will stop working on several old cell phone models as of June 1, 2024, following the line that has led to continuing to renew its functions.

The app’s decision is due to updates to the Android and iOS operating systems that will make the app incompatible with certain older devices.

The announcement affects more than 30 phone models, which include devices from brands such as Apple (iPhone), Samsung, LG, Huawei, Sony, Lenovo, and ZTEamong other brands present in the technology market.

New versions incorporate improvements in security, performance and compatibility with newer hardwarewhich means that older devices cannot adequately support the instant messaging app and all the repertoire that it will integrate.

The loss of this app can represent a gap in routine activitiesso you have to follow certain recommendations so that the impact is not so drastic.

WhatsApp users with affected devices have several options to avoid being cut off. First, you can try to update the operating system of your phonesif the update is available and prolong the use of the application for a while.

If not, It is recommended to consider purchasing a new phone compatible with the most recent versions of the appso you have to make sure not to buy models that no longer have the app.

Another alternative is to use other instant messaging applications, although these are not as popular as WhatsApp and may not have the same user base, but given the total loss of the app it is important to review the possibilities.

One way so that all your information saved in WhatsApp is not lost is to create a backup copy. These are the steps to follow:

  1. Open WhatsApp and go to the three vertical dots located in the upper right corner of the screen.
  2. Select “Settings” from the drop-down menu.
  3. Go to “Chats” and then “Chats Backup”.
  4. In this section, you can see the status of the last backup made. To start a new one, tap “Save” to Google Drive. You can select how often you want backups to occur automatically.
  5. Choose the Google account where you want to save the backup. If you haven’t added a Google account, WhatsApp will offer you the option to add one.
  6. Select whether or not you want to include videos in the backup. Keep in mind that videos can take up a lot of space on Google Drive.
  7. Click “Save” to start the backup process manually.
  1. Enter WhatsApp and go to “Settings” in the lower right corner.
  2. Select “Chats” and then “Backup.”
  3. Here you can see when the last backup was made. To create a new one, tap “Back up now.”
  4. Before copying, you can choose whether you want to include videos or not by checking or unchecking the “Include videos” option.
  5. The backup is saved in iCloud, so make sure you have enough space available in your iCloud account to complete the backup.

It is crucial that users of affected devices act early so as not to be left in the dark when these updates go into effect.
