A man charged with attempted murder after he allegedly used his motor car to hit another from his motorcycle was on Friday granted bail in the sum of $200,000 with surety in the St Catherine Parish Court.

The accused, Zavian Jones, a businessman of Mountain Pass district in the parish, is to reappear in court on July 9.

During court, Senior Parish Court Judge Desiree Alleyne said that there was a need for the complainant to appear for a consideration of bail.

The Clerk of Court outlined that on the day in question the accused used his vehicle to hit the complainant twice from behind.

Attorney-at-law Cecile Griffiths-Ashton, in applying for bail, told the court that her client was attacked by the complainant who smashed into the car and threatened to kill him.

The lawyer told the court that his client made a report of malicious destruction of property against the complainant.

The court was told that Jones was invited back to the police station and was arrested and subsequently charged.

The court was told that Jones’ wife was in an advanced stage of pregnancy, that he is of a sound character, and will honor his bail conditions.

Allegations are that about 8 am on April 23, the accused was in the Mountain Pass community searching for a lost goat during which there was an argument between him and the complainant.

It is reported that he used his Honda Fit motor car to hit the complainant from his motorcycle.

The windshield and mirror of the car were damaged.

A report was made to the police and following an investigation, he was arrested and charged with attempted murder.
