ST. ALBANS – On Saturday, May 4, the BFA-St. Albans Comets softball team won 13-1 over Burr and Burton Academy.

Freshman Marah McGinn was in the circle for the Comets for her first varsity start. After hitting a batter and allowing one hit, McGinn hit her stride, inducing a ground ball to short, striking out the next batter, and then one more ground out, and she was out of the inning and ready to catch her breath. She gave up only one hit and one unearned run the rest of the way, striking out 10 batters and doing a masterful job all game long.

In the first inning, McGinn drove in Amelia Weber, who had doubled to give the Comets a 1-0 lead. In the second inning, Alyssa Boudreau hit a sacrifice fly to drive in Ava Harrison, who had doubled earlier in the inning

In the third inning, after two were out, McGinn hit his first varsity home run to give the Comets a 3-0 lead. The Burr and Burton pitcher then struggled to find the strike zone. Eventually, Cora Thomas hit a grand slam, and the Comets ended the third inning with a 9-0 lead.

In the fourth inning, Addie Parent led off with a single and scored on a ground ball to make it 10-1. At the bottom of the sixth, Haley Corey had a single and scored on Sophia Wolfe’s RBI single. Abby Gardner then singled out to reload the bases, and the game ended on a Nora Tatro RBI sacrifice fly.

The Comets move to 6-0 and travel to Essex on Monday, May 6 for a 4:30 start.
