“Coexistence ends up destroying love and passion”

She is one of the most prestigious actresses in our country, but also a successful painter. Carmen Conesa will star in the musical “Gypsy”, alongside Antonio Banderas, and she has just inaugurated an exhibition of hers with twenty of her paintings, the sale of which will go to charity.

Tell me about the exhibition…

There are twenty works from my last pictorial stage. Painting is part of my most intimate and spiritual side, my refuge. Since, thank God, I have a lot of work as an actress, I have decided to donate the profits from the sale of my paintings to an association that does extraordinary work with those most in need, it is the Brotherhood of Refuge and Piety of Madrid, which does incredible work… My paintings are going to be auctioned and all the profits will go to them. Life has given me a lot and it is fair that I be generous with those who have less than me.

How do you define your pictorial style?

It is a figurative realism, which I combine with photographs, there are portraits of people and landscapes. I always work with oils on canvas.

He has an unfulfilled dream…

Well, you already know that I am a boat skipper, I love the sea, and I would like to make a documentary series about a group of female skippers who sail around different places in the Mediterranean. The project is there, with the scripts written, due to lack of financing.

Regarding her acting work, she reveals that “in July you will see me at the Mérida Theater Festival with the play “Coriolano”, in which I play the protagonist’s mother. And then I will work with Antonio Banderas in the musical “Gypsy”, which we will premiere in his theater in Soho in Malaga.”

And how does love treat you?

Very good. I have been with a person who lives in Buenos Aires for five years and we see each other whenever we can. I travel to Argentina sometimes, and he comes to Spain other times. Long distance love is good, because reunions are wonderful. It’s the way to make relationships last longer. I think that coexistence ends up destroying love and passion.
