The president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, highlighted during his morning conference at the National Palace that the Gas Bienestar program managed to stabilize the price of LP gas, offering affordable prices for consumers. Thanks to this initiative, The cost of a 20 kilo cylinder is 400 pesosa fairer price that especially benefits lower-income families.
“The Gas Bienestar thing has worked very well, especially to control the price, which is not by decree, because competition helps a lot,” said López Obrador. Although Gas Bienestar cannot supply all consumers, the program has forced private LP gas distributors to adjust their prices to the level established by the government, helping to keep costs under control.
According to the Profeco report, the international price of LP gas per kilogram was 20.77 pesos, while the average national price was $19.04 per kilogram. Gas Bienestar, a subsidiary of Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex), offers the 20 kilo cylinder for 400 pesos, which is equivalent to a price of 20 pesos per kilogram. Although the price of Gas Bienestar is slightly higher than the national average, remains lower than the international reference price.
Thus, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador highlighted in the morning conference on May 7 that Gas Bienestar contributes to stabilizing LP gas prices in Mexico. The creation of this public company led private distributors to adjust their prices according to the range established by the Federal Government. Although Gas Bienestar cannot supply all consumers, its presence influenced the LP gas market in Mexico.
The price comparison between Gas Bienestar and the national and international LP gas market shows that Gas Bienestar offers a cost per kilogram slightly higher than the national average but lower than the international reference price. Gas Bienestar’s influence in the national market helped stabilize LP gas prices, creating a more competitive environment for consumers in Mexico.
