MEXICO CITY, May 13, 2024.- Outside the National Palace, several explosions of firecrackers and rockets were recorded, which reportedly injured more than 20 security personnel.

According to unofficial data, there are at least 20 officers who were taken to a hospital due to the severity of their injuries.

This occurred when students from the Raúl Isidro Burgos Rural Normal School demonstrated outside the National Palace to request an audience with President López Obrador.

It is presumed that the protest had to do with disagreement over the release of eight soldiers related to the disappearance of the 43 normalistas from Ayotzinapa.

What does the official report say?

The SSC reported that in the Zócalo of Mexico City, members of the Metropolitan Police, Task Force and Ateneas, of the Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC) who were carrying out a deployment due to the presence of protesters in the area, were injured by splinters from firecrackers and rockets.

At the site, paramedics from the Rescue and Medical Emergencies Squadron (ERUM), in seven ambulances, treated 26 uniformed personnel who had injuries mostly to the legs, arms and buttocks; All were transferred to different hospitals to receive the specialized medical care they require.

It should be noted that, after making their public expression, the protesters left the scene.
