The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) caused alarm among some social media users by accidentally broadcasting an astronaut emergency in space, which fortunately turned out to be false.

This week, the agency’s YouTube channel published an audio in which a woman served as a guide for the crew, providing instructions such as “check the pulse and administer oxygen,” “help the commander put the suit back on,” and stating that ” Unfortunately, the prognosis for the commander is quite limited. It was also suggested that the health of one of the crew was compromised while they were on the International Space Station.

Given the confusion generated, NASA explained through its official X account that the audio deviated from the ongoing simulation, which is part of regular training for both the crew and the ground teams, preparing them for various scenarios that could arise. during a mission.

«There is no emergency situation on board the International Space Station. At approximately 5:28 pm CDT, audio was transmitted on NASA’s live feed from a ground simulation audio channel indicating that a crew member was experiencing effects related to decompression sickness (DCS). “It is not related to a real emergency,” they detailed.

In addition, they noted that the crew on the Station was resting at the time of the transmission: “Everyone remains healthy and safe, and tomorrow’s spacewalk will begin at 8 am EDT as planned,” they added in the statement issued yesterday.

The news reassured users, who expressed relief at the false alarm: “They had many of us on the verge of turning blue”, “It’s a relief, I’m very happy that everyone is fine, healthy and safe”, “That’s it!” It was terrifying to hear! “I’m glad to know that everything is fine in space,” they commented.

To date, the agency has not provided any further details about the incident.
