Detroit (USA), June 15 (EFE).- The former president of the United States and future Republican candidate Donald Trump participated this Saturday in a far-right forum in Detroit, in the key state of Michigan, just after visiting a church black to court the African American vote.

The New York magnate was the guest star of the so-called Popular Convention convened by the ultraconservative organization Turning Point Action, which according to the Anti-Defamation League has connections with white supremacists.

“The radical left Democrats stole the 2020 elections and we are not going to allow them to fraud the 2024 presidential elections,” Trump exclaimed, applauded by the public, among whom were congressmen from the most radical wing of the Republicans.

Trump, accused of trying to reverse the 2020 election results and having instigated the assault on the Capitol, does not recognize his defeat against Democrat Joe Biden and claims without evidence that he was the victim of electoral fraud.

The Republican insisted in his speech that he is a victim of judicial persecution promoted by Biden and promised the largest deportation in the history of the United States if he returns to power after the elections on November 5.

Before attending the event, the Republican held a meeting with voters at an African-American church in Detroit, in an attempt to fish for votes from a traditionally Democratic sector of the population.

In that temple, Trump accused Biden of having allowed a wave of irregular migrants to enter the country who are stealing jobs from African Americans.

According to a survey by the Prew Center, the black population remains overwhelmingly Democratic, since 78% would vote for Biden, compared to 18% who would vote for Trump, but the Democratic advantage has been reduced compared to four years ago.

Democrats fear that the current president’s low popularity will demobilize the black electorate in cities like Detroit, which could cost them victory in the key state of Michigan, which in 2016 voted for Trump and in 2020 voted for Biden. EFE
