A gas leak leaves five Vitoria tram stops without service

The Vitoria tram service was interrupted this Thursday afternoon due to a gas leak. At around 3:30 p.m., the line from Ibaiondo only reached the Florida stop, so the Santa Lucía, Ilíada, Nicosia, La Unión and Salburua stops were out of service. The other line, which connects Abetxuko with the university area, has continued to operate normally.

Euskotren, the operator of Vitoria’s trams, reported at 3:21 p.m., via a message on the social network X, that the service was interrupted between the Ilíada and Salburua stops. The operator confirmed, however, that there was no service beyond the Florida stop. The problems were due to a gas leak.

Sources from the Vitoria Fire Department have indicated that a backhoe working between Boulevard de Salburua and Ilíada “has touched a natural gas pipeline.” Firefighters, the Local Police and also other technicians have been notified, who “have located the nearest stopcock” and “in a matter of minutes” have resolved the incident. Beyond the traffic cut, it is understood that it has been a minor incident. “It has happened in the open air, the methane rises upwards and does not generate a priori danger,” indicate the municipal sources consulted.
