Metrocable Line K users They will have to find other means of transportation during the next two weekswhich is the estimated time that it will be out of service after the emergency that occurred this Wednesday with one of the cabins, an event that left one person dead and 21 more injured.
This was confirmed by Jaime Andrés Ortiz, Social and Customer Service Manager of the Medellín Metro, who explained that “we estimate the times and Service may be suspended for a similar period of time when major maintenance is performedbecause our goal is to guarantee that our travelers can do so with the greatest peace of mind.”
At the moment, 90,000 people are affected by this emergency, who use this transportation system daily that mainly connects communes 1 (Popular) and 2 (Santa Cruz) with the Acevedo station and the rest of the metro system. To overcome this situation, the mass transportation company established a route with 10 feeder routes so that those affected can travel from Acevedo, Tricentenario and Hospital to their homes, while the metrocable returns to operation.
“We count with an estimated between eight and 10 buses that make the circle between Acevedo and Santo Domingo, when it is normally done with five in cases where there is maintenance work. We have the support of the Medellín Mobility Secretariat intervening in some sections where traffic becomes heavier,” Ortiz explained.

The five routes enabled for this contingency plan are:
– Route C6-017: Integration: Acevedo and Santo Domingo. Route: Santo Domingo Station, main road to 97th Street, Granizal, Santa Cruz and Los Balsos neighborhoods, Acevedo.
– Route C6-012A La Francia – Acevedo: Integration: It passes near Andalucía station and goes to Acevedo. Route: It leaves the headquarter in La Francia, passes through the Andalucía station and heads to the integration in Acevedo.
– Route C6-013: Integration: Popular and Tercentenary. Route: It leaves Popular N° 1, joins the Popular station and goes to the Tricentenario station.
– Route C6-016: Integration: Hospital. Route: Hospital Station southeast side. Support for the Granizal and Nuevo Horizonte sectors.
– Route C6-021: Integration: Tercentenary. Route: Tercentenario Station. Support for the Granizal and Popular 1 sectors.

“We cannot rule out any type of hypothesis about the causes of this accident. What we do know is that this is a specific situation, which occurs only at the Popular station with two cabins. We are not dealing here with a general failure of the entire system. For the peace of mind of our travelers, we are constantly attentive to the evolution of the behavior of this cable line and we are reviewing it in detail, which is why the line is going to be suspended in operation and we are going to carry out an independent, transparent investigation to find out. the real causes of this situation,” said the manager.
