NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg stated this Thursday (04/25/2024) that “it is not too late for Ukraine to prevail” in the war against Russia, provided that Western powers fulfill their promises to deliver more weapons.
“In recent months, NATO allies have not provided the promised support” to the former Soviet republic, which has resisted the Russian invasion for more than two years, Stoltenberg admitted in a speech in Berlin, Germany.
“But it is not too late for Ukraine to prevail, because more support is coming,” he added.
Ukrainian troops suffered several setbacks in recent months due to lack of weapons and ammunition.
Stoltenberg recalled the important aid granted to Ukraine by the United States, as well as the commitments of countries such as the United Kingdom, Germany and the Netherlands to increase their support.
“It is now our responsibility to turn those commitments into actual deliveries of weapons and ammunition, and to do so quickly,” he stressed.
The United States Congress approved this week, after months of discussions, a $61 billion aid package for Ukraine, including $14 billion to train, equip and finance the needs of the army.
