The congresswoman from the Democratic Center said that she is in Hungary, at a meeting of the international right. There she is going to meet with the president of that country, Viktor Orban, who has been in office for 14 years.

Cabal and Orban share, among others, the narrative against “communism” as they call any progressive politician. He said that the meeting will serve to “tell (Orban) what is happening in Colombia and Latin America, and continue building allies from this part of the world that suffered communism and today preserves its freedom and takes care of it.”

Orban, the creator of a “hybrid regime of democratic autocracy.” This is what the European Parliament called him, who has been president of Hungary since 2010. He is critical of migration and the war in Ukraine and says his country is “a conservative island” in the middle of an increasingly progressive Europe.

“Orban himself says his invention is a combination of ‘aliberal democracy’ and ‘Christian freedom,’” according to this BBC profile.

Other “personalities” of the Ibero-American right. Cabal has already met with other right-wing leaders with whom Uribism has close ties, such as Santiago Abascal, president of the far-right party Vox, from Spain; and Eduardo Bolsonaro, deputy and son of the former far-right president of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro.
