Daniel Sancho’s statement was scheduled for Thursday, April 25, in the Koh Samui court. However, this was postponed due to a problem with the air conditioning. This situation generated discomfort among some present, as they suggested that there was a possible bias of the court in favor of the accused. Even sources close to the case indicated that there are people within the court linked to Sancho’s defense and with influence in the court.
It is speculated that Sancho preferred to postpone his statement to first listen to the testimonies of the witnesses. Furthermore, “They have changed the translator from English to Spanish and have given it one they trust. Now the air conditioning thing happens, coincidentally when the Spanish lawyers of the Arrieta family are in Koh Samui,” says the spokesman for the Arrieta, Juan Ospina, as compiled by the aforementioned medium.
Also surprising is the change in position of the prosecutor in the case, Jeerawat Sawatdichai, who previously affirmed premeditation in the murder of Edwin Arrieta, but now seems to doubt it.
On the other hand, Ospina raised suspicions about the privileges that Sancho enjoys in prison: “He’s supposed to be in the infirmary because he has back problems, but he practices Muay Thai every day.”
For these and other reasons, the Arrietas’ Spanish lawyer agrees that “very strange things are happening and always in favor of Daniel Sancho.” In addition, he recalled that the police “held a press conference this Wednesday in Koh Phangan to confirm that they have done a good job and to reiterate that there was premeditation” in Edwin’s murder, something he considers unusual.
Why is premeditation of murder important?
Sancho’s defense argues that it was a homicide in self-defense after a fight between the two, which, if accepted by the court, could avoid the death penalty, since the maximum sentence would be life imprisonment according to Thai law. The Spanish lawyers for the Sancho family hope to prove a lack of premeditation so that Sancho will be sentenced to prison and eventually extradited to Spain.
