French President Emmanuel Macron warned of sending troops to Ukraine in case Russia breaches the front lines and kyiv asks France for help. Furthermore, he noted that if the Russian military increases its actions in Ukraine, all European leaders will have to consider sending troops.
During an interview with The Economist, Macron stated: “If Russia decides to go further, in any case we will all have to ask ourselves this question of whether we will send troops”. And he added: “I do not rule out anything, because we are faced with someone who does not rule out anything“, referring to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
This statement follows a series of previous comments by the French president about the possibility of deploying European forces in Eastern Europe. Macron emphasized that his strategic objective is to prevent Russia from winning in Ukraine, since he considers that a Russian victory in this conflict would represent a threat to security in Europe.
“I have a clear strategic objective: Russia cannot win in Ukraine. If Russia wins in Ukraine, there will be no security in Europe“he warned. And along these same lines, he maintained that his refusal to rule out such deployments serves as a “strategic wake up call” for their counterparts.
