HAVANA.- The president of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, assured his Mexican counterpart Manuel López Obrador that both nations will continue to deepen their historic bilateral ties during the term of Claudia Sheinbaum, it emerged today from official sources.

Likewise, Díaz-Canel thanked AMLO for his constant and manifest support for the Caribbean island on all fronts, especially notable in the rejection of the economic, financial and commercial blockade imposed by the United States government for more than six decades. .

Cuba and Mexico have maintained widely documented friendly relations in the political and mutual cooperation spheres, which became particularly evident during the six-year term of López-Obrador’s government.

After learning of Claudia Sheinbaum’s victory, on June 3, President Díaz-Canel also spoke by telephone with the elected president of Mexico, whom he congratulated and confirmed the desire to further deepen bilateral relations and friendship.

For her part, AMLO’s successor as head of the Mexican Government, confirmed the willingness to advance in areas of mutual interest, since “Mexico and Cuba are sister nations, united by ties of cooperation, solidarity and shared history.”

Sheinbaum, a scientist and politician, who will assume power on October 1, expressed her responsibility to the legacy of President López Obrador and committed to the people of Mexico to govern with humility and deep responsibility.
