Mexicowon first place and crowned as the flag most beautiful in South America. Chosen by Internet users, the Aztec flag obtained 901,627 points. The silver medal went to Peru, which, in fact, did not reach even half of the points that the Mexican banner achieved, registering 340,901 units. Guatemala took third position, achieving 272,541 points.

The top 10 of the most beautiful flags in the world were completed with those of the Dominican Republic, Brazil, Spain, Uruguay, Argentina, Canada and Puerto Rico. It was striking that nine of the ten most voted flags in this survey belong to countries on the American continent, while only the flag of Spain represented Europe.

According to the Spanish newspaper’s website, during the 48 days that the contest lasted, more than seven and a half million votes were cast and more than 25,000 comments were received.

“We started with 104 flags from around the world, and every two days we eliminated the five flags with the least votes, until today when the contest ended with the 10 most voted flags,” the site stated. According to the rules of the contest, held at the initiative of a reader of the newspaper, netizens could vote with between one and five points for their favorite flag.
