«Dear Mr Ramaphosa, please accept our sincere congratulations on your re-election as President of the Republic of South Africa. We greatly appreciate his personal contribution to the development of strategic partnership relations between our countries,” the telegram reads.

In his message, the Russian leader also refers to Ramaphosa’s contributions to the advancement of productive Russian-South African cooperation in the context of the United Nations, the Brics+, the group of 20 (G20) and other multilateral structures.

Putin added that he hopes to continue constructive dialogue with his South African counterpart and work together on current issues on the bilateral and international agenda.

«It will be a pleasure to welcome you to the Brics+ Summit to be held in Kazan from October 22 to 24. I wish you new successes in such a responsible activity at the head of the State, as well as health and well-being,” the telegram adds.

The day before, the National Assembly of the Republic of South Africa re-elected Cyril Ramaphosa as president of the country.

Ramaphosa won 283 votes and his electoral rival, Julius Malema, leader of the Economic Freedom Fighters party, obtained 44.
