The US ambassador to Spain, Julissa Reynoso, has announced that she will leave her position in the summer and return to her job as a lawyer in New York. During her speech on the occasion of the 248th anniversary of US independence, held tonight at the Plaza de Toros de las Ventas, Reynoso explained that will continue to collaborate with President Joe Biden in the next elections to achieve his re-election.

“This will be my last 4th of July celebration in Spain. “It has been the honor of my life,” said the ambassador, the first woman to hold the position in our country, who confessed that she feels a “bittersweet” feeling about leaving, although she is comforted by the “great achievements” during her mandate.

“I have many friends and family here, my mother who doesn’t want to leave,” added Julissa Reynoso, who has confessed that when preparing to leave Spain this summer she is filled with “hope and optimism” for the future of their country and collaboration with Spain.

In her speech, the ambassador highlighted the values ​​of justice and equality that unite Spaniards and North Americans, and the work that both countries have carried out together to “promote and protect” democracy and prosperity and foster mutual understanding.

“Thank you to the Spanish Government and the people of Spain for their support and friendship that has allowed us to achieve a lot of things,” said Reynoso during the event, which was attended by the Ministers of Agriculture, Luis Planas, and the Ministers of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, among other authorities.

The Secretary of the US Navy, Carlos del Toro, who is visiting Spain, announced in his speech the christening of a new frigate with a Spanish name, the USS Gálvez (FFG-67), in gratitude for the support that the Spanish military man and politician Bernardo de Gálvez y Madrid (1746-1786) lent for the independence of the United States as governor of Louisiana.
