the bodybuilder Hugo Sérgio Pereira do Nascimento (30) died after being trapped in the flames that consumed his apartment on July 29, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. “Before he died, he fulfilled the mission of being a hero for his family,” said a friend of the athlete, who explained that he managed to rescue his daughter and his dog.

In this sense, he pointed out that, after saving his six-year-old girl, Hugo was trapped in his apartment. “He even went back for the dog, but when he went to open the door, he couldn’t and tried to get out the window,” the friend said. Unfortunately, his attempts were in vain and he ended up being burned by the flames.

According to the autopsy performed by the Medical Legal Institute (IML), the personal trainer had 100% of his body with third degree burns, which affected his respiratory tract. The victim had also inhaled hot smoke and soot.

“There was no fight”

Larissa Mello Viana, Hugo’s widow, who managed to escape from the apartment on her own in time, denied what her neighbors said, who pointed out that the athlete and she had discussed the night of the tragic fire. “There was no fight, I don’t know where they got that from,” she said after giving her statements to the police for more than four hours.

On the other hand, he emphasized that he will now focus on his daughter, who is hospitalized with burns on 70% of her body.
