Generation V: María López – Valencia Plaza

VALENCIA. In Culturplaza We have set ourselves a challenge: to portray those young creators who shape the new Valencian culture. A Generation V that has arrived, not only to stay, but to shake everything. It’s time to play this particular ‘Who’s who’. Today: María López.

-Birthdate:

-09/07/2003.

-Profession:

-At this moment, I am in my third year of Fine Arts, where I am focusing on my specialization in painting. I am immersed in the search for my place in the art world, exploring different artistic groups and entering the field of curating exhibitions. Despite this, I never lose sight of my main objective: to continue developing my own artistic production. Furthermore, I am constantly open to knowing and learning from the environment that surrounds me, as I firmly believe that inspiration and artistic growth are everywhere, waiting to be discovered.

-Moment when you knew you wanted to dedicate yourself to it:

-I have never liked showing what I drew, so I used to hide my creations or even throw them in the trash, as if they were something to be ashamed of. However, my parents and friends discovered some of these drawings, either by rescuing them from the trash or finding them in the places where I had hidden them.

This involuntary discovery sparked an interest in art in me and motivated me to transform my hobby into something to strive for. Currently, friends of mine still have drawings collected from the trash can. Today, some of my friends still have drawings they rescued from the trash, which reminds me of how far I’ve come from those days of hiding out of shame.

-Tell us everything we need to know about your creative project in a Tweet:

-My work explores family life and childhood, capturing moments that generate connection and invite introspection.

-If your biography were published tomorrow, what title would it have?

Heart captivated by the sad love of the ugly.

-What would you ask a crystal ball?

-Was being a redhead a phase or are we still redheads?

-An album, movie/series and book:

-Disk: Disintegration-The Cure. Movie: The Untouchables by Eliot Ness-Brian de Palma. Series: Cut along the dotted line. Book: Siddhartha– Herman Hesse.

-Artistic/professional moment “earth swallow me”:

-I’m constantly making stupid shit that happens to everyone. But without a doubt the most embarrassing mistake I have made was hanging a painting of a colleague upside down. I didn’t even realize until her father pointed it out to me.

-To which artist would you dedicate a street:

-To Jacinta Gil Roncalés.

-What are your most used emojis?

-How/where do you see yourself in 10 years?

-The idea of thinking about the future terrifies me. In my wildest dreams, I see myself working and collaborating with people with whom I can complete projects that I can be proud of.

Establishing strong artistic collectives and exploring new ideas in my creative work. I have no certainty about the path I will take, nor the knots of people through which I will move. But in 10 years, I will still have a job as an artist.

-Three accounts of Valencian creators that we SHOULD follow on social media:

-@somoslasnanas, @crime_artt and @enarevela.jpg

-Complete the sentence: Generation V is…

-The generation marked by fear and ambiguity. Challenging and chaotic, looking for its place in a new language without defined limits, adapting to a constantly changing sensibility.
