When Hyundai launched the N Vision 74, together with the RN22e, left the world speechless. The RN22e had a silhouette similar to that of the Ioniq 6, pointing almost directly to an Ioniq 6 N, but the N Vision 74 was groundbreaking, futuristic as well as retro (based on the 1974 Pony Coupé prototype designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro). Many of us would like to have this irreverent fuel cell car, but it seems that it is going to remain a prototype. Unless Hyundai decides otherwise, and it looks like it will through the N74 project.

Hyundai N74, a hydrogen-powered supercar project

According to Korea Economic Daily, Hyundai is talking to N Vision 74 parts suppliers for a supposed two-door gull-wing supercar, the N74 (The Drive). A supplier aims to manufacture parts and deliver them to Hyundai Motor by July 2024, The first images of the test mule of the production version can be seen in August.

This, in theory, would differ from the prototype in its specifications, although it would also have both a fuel cell and a 70 kWh battery (instead of 62.4 kWh) to power the two electric motors. Normally I would use only the fuel cell, but in more sporty driving modes or one directly designed for circuits I would use both. In these conditions, the N74 could be around 760 HP (instead of 671 on the prototype) and go from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in just three seconds (KED Global).

It would begin production in 2026 for around 340,000 euros

The plans, according to this Korean media, would be manufacture up to 100 units per year for a period of two years that would begin in June 2026. That is, in total 200 units would be manufactured of the N74 for the entire world, at an estimated price of 370,000 dollars (about 340,000 euros according to currency exchange rates in May 2024). It would be a leap in quality considering that at the moment the most expensive vehicle they have in their range is the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N, the only Hyundai N that is currently sold in dealerships. Months ago there was talk of 100 units, 70 for clients and about 30 for competition.

Not only is it an attractive car that, to some extent, is reminiscent of the DeLorean DMC-12 from Back to the Future (something logical given that the DeLorean was also designed by Giugiaro). It is also an interesting way to have a true supercar as a top-of-the-range model that also represents the latest advances in motorization, technology and sustainability, in addition to the technological solutions related to the hydrogen fuel cell (present in its range through the NEXO ) developed in the rolling laboratory that has been the N Vision 74 until now.

Will it remain faithful to the prototype?

In fact, if this is true and we see the N74 start production in June 2026 We would be talking about the first supercar powered by a hydrogen fuel cell to be on sale. Of course there are several pending issues, both regarding specifications (for example, the weight of the set, if they have managed to reduce it) and whether will maintain all the design elements of the sensational prototype.
