New nutrition technology to strengthen piglets and reduce the use of antibiotics – Valor Carne

Hernán Pérez Monti.

The animal nutrition company Teknal relaunched its Magnum Piglet Program Line, designed for producers seeking to specialize and improve efficiency at each stage of their production.

It is integrated with Magnum Vital, forming what the company calls the “Virtuous Circle” of production. “Good piglets produce good breeders, and in turn, good breeders result in healthier and more robust piglets,” the firm explained.

Furthermore, Magnum Neo is a response to the growing need to reduce the use of antimicrobials in swine nutrition, in line with international trends and emerging regulations. “This new solution seeks to gradually “reduce” the use of antibiotics and other growth promoters, focusing on more sustainable and healthy alternatives for pork production,” they added.

“A balanced and well-formulated diet in animals not only promotes optimal growth and better feed conversion, but also contributes to animal well-being, the health of the final consumer and reduces the impact on the environment,” stressed Hernán Perez Monti. , Commercial Manager of Teknal, in dialogue with Meat Value.

Pérez Monti explained that this nutritional solution has technology brought from Europe and know-how learned by Teknal personnel in training in the United States, but he clarified that a model from abroad is not being copied, but rather “incorporating concepts and products that will be able to use successfully in our production system.”

The objective of this Magnum NEO Line, he explained, is to “reinforce the feeding of piglets during their first 10 weeks of life, which is a time of intense nutrition demand, seeking for the animals to emerge stronger after weaning.”

Alliance that adds

Since 2015, Teknal has collaborated closely with ABNeo, a leading company in Europe specialized in nutritional solutions for piglets in their early stages of life.

The strategic partnership between both firms was fundamental for the development and formulation of the line. Dr. Simon Tibble, a British expert with more than 30 years of experience in swine nutrition, played a key role in this process, providing his knowledge and experience to optimize the nutritional requirements and design of the Magnum line.

During 2023, various field tests were carried out to validate the expected productive response, demonstrating the commitment of both companies to quality and excellence in their products that are launched on the market today.

Why pigs?

Teknal’s renewed commitment to animal nutrition in pigs is based on a series of strategic and market reasons. First of all, pork occupies a prominent place as the second most consumed meat worldwide. This sustained demand represents a significant opportunity to diversify the firm’s portfolio of holdings, especially considering its already established presence in bovine nutrition, both meat and dairy.

In addition, it is based on the growth potential of the sector in Argentina. With approximately 360 thousand mothers in production, the local market offers substantial expansion opportunities.

Another factor is the per capita consumption of pork, which in Argentina went from around 8 kilos annually in 2007 to 18-20 kilos today.

Teknal is an animal nutrition company that, born in Río Cuarto, Córdoba, manufactures and markets its own product lines throughout the country, in addition to having already begun its expansion in the region a few years ago.

Currently, it has 270 employees distributed in its five production units and in the commercial offices located in different strategic points in Argentina. In addition, the company has three laboratories dedicated to the analysis of raw materials and finished products.

During last year, the firm marketed 90,000 tons of animal nutrition products, distributed across its various business units, ranging from beef and dairy cattle, pigs and horses, to poultry and pet foods.
